From Sustainability Trainee to Specialist: Angad’s career journey

Angad Roy joined Lindström in 2023 as a Sustainability Trainee and now shines as a Sustainability Specialist, focusing on emissions.

Originally from India, Angad made the bold move to Finland in 2021 to pursue a master’s degree in sustainability and business management at Hanken School of Economics. Before joining Lindström, he spent five fulfilling years working in India and earned his bachelor’s degree there. During his master’s programme, Angad’s passion for sustainability led him to work at a start-up where he improved his skills in calculating emissions. His rich academic background and work experience perfectly positioned him to apply for a traineeship at Lindström. Upon graduating with his master’s degree, he was thrilled to receive a traineeship offer, marking the start of his exciting journey with Lindström.

Sustainability on the rise

In his role, Angad is dedicated to helping Lindström achieve its ambitious sustainability targets, including a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030. His work involves careful emission calculations, data management, and strategising to meet the company’s goals. Angad collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders across various departments, including delivery services, suppliers, and operations teams, as well as different countries within Lindström’s portfolio. He thrives in a dynamic team where each member focuses on different aspects of sustainability, making their collective effort all the more impactful.

Lindström creating opportunities

Lindström’s commitment to a circular economy business model and its innovative approach to textiles captivated Angad. He contently recalls the extra effort he put into his job application for the traineeship position and beams with pride at the outcome. Instead of hiring one sustainability trainee, Lindström hired two; one for the original trainee position and one tailor-made for Angad. Recognising his unique expertise, Lindström created a role tailored for Angad, reflecting the company’s respect for individual strengths and its dedication to creating mutually beneficial opportunities.

Long-lasting working environment

Angad cherishes the kind and welcoming atmosphere at Lindström, where everyone works towards a shared, inspiring goal. The company’s commitment to creating interesting positions and tasks fosters a fulfilling work environment. Despite not speaking Finnish, Angad feels deeply appreciated as his colleagues make an effort to include him in conversations by speaking English. Navigating a new business can be challenging, but Angad has always had supportive colleagues ready to assist him.

Putting strengths into practice

When Angad began his time at Lindström, he had a vision of what his position would entail, but it naturally evolved over time into a comprehensive trainee role. He is genuinely happy with the entirety of his work, combining diverse responsibilities with a healthy working culture. A significant part of his job satisfaction comes from having an incredible manager who has been instrumental in his career growth. Angad feels well-supported in various projects, particularly during his trainee contract.

Training on the job

Angad is elated to apply the skills he learned at school to his work at Lindström, gaining a more comprehensive understanding of sustainable practices. Currently, he is expanding his expertise through a company-supported course in data analytics and artificial intelligence. This opportunity to broaden his knowledge in different areas has been incredibly enriching.
