New flame-retardant stretch trousers: protection in motion
In work environments where employees may face heat, flames, thermal hazards of an electric arc or other serious hazards, protective clothing must provide certified protection without restricting movement.
Lindström’s new FR Stretch trousers are now available, expanding two established protective workwear concepts:
- MultiPro FR Stretch trousers for indoor maintenance and process work, particularly in warmer environments
- TwinPro FR Stretch trousers for outdoor electrical engineering, utility, infrastructure and maintenance work where certified high visibility is also required
Both styles are Category III personal protective equipment (PPE). They provide certified protection against heat and flame, electrostatic discharge and the thermal hazards of an electric arc, and are suitable for use in ATEX environments. The TwinPro trousers additionally provide EN ISO 20471 Class 1 high-visibility protection.
In this article, Irena Kostelanská, Workwear Product Manager at Lindström, explains how wearer feedback shaped the trousers and how the new MultiPro and TwinPro styles support comfortable movement in demanding work
Certified protection for different working environments
The MultiPro Comfort concept offers lightweight, flame-retardant and antistatic protection for indoor maintenance and process work. It is particularly suited to warm working environments and is also suitable for tasks involving electric-arc risks.
The TwinPro concept combines flame-retardant and antistatic protection, protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc, and Class 1 certified high-visibility protection. It is designed especially for infrastructure, maintenance and electrical engineering work where employees need to remain visible as well as protected.
Protective garments and combinations should always be selected according to the workplace risk assessment and the protection required for the task.
Designed around real movement
The new trousers include four-way stretch panels in selected areas to support movement when bending, climbing, kneeling or working in confined spaces.
The design was tested in real maintenance work at Sucros, a sugar producer in Finland. Test users found the trousers comfortable during demanding movements and considered the stretch panels well placed. The externally accessible, two-level knee pad pockets were also easy to use.
The working positions often require extreme movement, and people also need to crawl in very limited spaces. The stretch panels and knee pad pockets are essential for this type of work.

Practical details for everyday work
During testing, workers carried approximately one to two kilograms of tools in their pockets. The spacious thigh pocket includes separate compartments for tools and a phone, while an additional pocket can hold a knife or folding ruler.
Both styles also feature covered back pockets, an adjustable waist and adjustable leg ends. These details help workers keep essential equipment close without unnecessarily restricting movement.
The MultiPro trousers can be combined with the MultiPro Comfort jacket, while the TwinPro trousers can be paired with the TwinPro jacket. Both styles are designed for demanding everyday use and industrial laundering.
More choice in protective workwear
Available in sizes 42–66, the new FR Stretch trousers complement Lindström’s existing MultiPro and TwinPro trouser styles. They provide an additional option for work requiring certified protection, comfortable movement and practical tool storage.
