HiVis workwear designed for comfort, safety, and real-world use

Did you know that the right workwear can enhance safety, comfort, and efficiency, even in the most demanding conditions?

In this article, Lindström’s Soile Pakarinen, Workwear Designer, and Katriina Walliander, Project Manager, share the story behind our HiVis collections (HiVisPro Stretch and HiVis Winter Laminated) and explain the user benefits of our high-visibility workwear.

Designing HiVis workwear is a detailed process

Creating high-visibility (HiVis) workwear isn’t just about making garments; it’s about understanding the people who wear them and the environments they work in. That’s why our design journey, which began in 2021, started with one essential step: listening.

HiVis workwear from Lindström is your best friend at work.

Working closely with our sales team, we dug deep into the needs of our customers and explored market trends, competitor products, and upcoming changes in legislation. This groundwork ensured that every decision we made was based on real-world insights.

Excellent workwear does more than just meet safety standards, it has to be functional, comfortable, and sustainable. That’s why we carefully selected new materials that stand up to rigorous quality checks, including extensive testing and trial washes.

For durability, we paid special attention to the parts of garments that face the most wear and tear. The result? Workwear that’s easy to repair, longer-lasting, and designed with simplicity in mind. Keeping our workwear as simple as possible also reduces the need for repairs and promotes recyclability.

With our HiVis workwear, you get more than just safety; you get clothing that works as hard as you do.

Workwear that considers the user in every detail

Workwear must provide protection, comfort, and flexibility even in demanding conditions.

Our latest collections are designed with the logistics sector in mind, where no two workdays, or workplaces, are the same. Whether you’re in a warehouse, behind the wheel, at a port, airport, terminal, or experiencing the chill of cold storage, our workwear has you covered.

Logistics work is physically demanding and fast-paced, requiring employees to be efficient yet precise. Safety regulations are strict, and staff need protective gear like reflective, high-visibility garments, safety shoes, and knee pads.

Our workwear is designed for heavy wear, with reinforced seams and durable materials that withstand frequent lifting, operating machinery, and the daily challenges of logistics.

Well-fitting HiVis workwear is a safety factor

Did you know that well-fitting workwear isn’t just about comfort? It’s also crucial for safety. Garments that are too tight or too loose can get caught on machinery or loads, increasing the risk of accidents. That’s why achieving the right fit was a top priority. Adjustable features make it easy for wearers to tailor their clothing for maximum comfort and safety.

Ergonomics also played a key role in our design process. Flexible panels in the garments allow wearers to bend, lift, and turn without restrictions—improving mobility and reducing accident risks while enhancing job satisfaction.

We listened to market feedback to ensure our collections cater to everyone. With designs tailored for both men and women, we support the growing number of women in industries like logistics, transportation, and manufacturing. Gender balance varies across Europe, but well-designed workwear for women plays an important role in levelling the playing field.

Take our HiVisPro Stretch Jacket, for example. Lightweight and flexible, it’s available in sizes from 2S to 8L, ensuring a great fit for a wide range of body types—because safety should never be one-size-fits-all.

Balancing safety requirements with thoughtful design

From an aesthetic perspective, safety certifications often set strict guidelines that shape the final design. In HiVis clothing, the required amount of visible surface area must also be present in the smallest garment size. This can influence the design of the garment.

For instance, we may need to widen trouser legs to meet the surface area requirements.  Similarly, the placement of reflectors and coloured areas has little flexibility, which partly determines the placement of many other elements.

Putting users at the heart of our design process

Good workwear design doesn’t happen by chance—it’s the result of teamwork and a deep understanding of user needs. By collaborating with product specialists, pattern makers, production technicians, and test users, we ensure that every garment balances comfort, functionality, and durability.

Our HiVis collections aren’t just products—they’re solutions designed to keep you safe, comfortable, and ready for whatever the workday brings.

Katriina Walliander, Product Manager

I’ve always been fascinated by how much protection a wearable garment can provide for a person. This interest has played a big role throughout my career. I’ve worked with motorcycle clothing, flotation garments, and bulletproof vests, as well as workwear and protective clothing.

The hazardous tasks and challenging conditions that demand protective clothing inspire humility in me. Protecting people at work is my motivation.
