Leading UK Operations Through Growth: Ian Copeland’s Career Story
A fresh challenge and the right fit
After 13 years with his previous employer, Ian Copeland knew he was ready to test himself in a new environment. He had two options on the table, but Lindström stood out for a reason that felt familiar. The fact it is family owned, was a culture that he already valued, and it gave him confidence that the business would take a long term view of people and performance.
Ian joined Lindström in November 2018 as Production Manager for Manchester. It was a role rooted in the practical realities of service, quality, and flow, but it quickly became clear that his journey would not be limited to one site or one set of responsibilities.

Early exposure that shaped the next step
From the start, Ian benefited from something that is easy to overlook but hard to replace: early access to senior leaders and meaningful mentoring. Through shadowing and consistent coaching, he gained insight into operational leadership beyond his immediate remit. He saw how decisions are made, how priorities are set, and how to connect day to day actions to wider outcomes.
That development mattered. When the Workwear Operations Manager role opened in January 2020, Ian was ready for a challenge. He was successful in his application and credits that progression not just to delivering in role, but to the guidance and structured support he had received along the way. The move marked a shift in scope, from leading one site to driving performance across a broader operation, developing leaders, and working cross functionally.
From operational oversight to strategic leadership
In November 2024, Ian was given exposure to Lindström’s other key UK service offering, the Industrial Wiper Service (IWS). Soon after, he stepped into interim charge of the entire UK Operations function. Overnight, the scale changed again: two service lines, a wider operational structure, and a team of more than 110 employees.
Managing both Workwear and Industrial Wiper sides of the business has been demanding and genuinely rewarding. It has pushed Ian to elevate his thinking, moving from managing what is in front of him to prioritising what will have the biggest impact across multiple workstreams. With that has come sharper time management, clearer focus, and stronger decision making under pressure.
“I’ve learned that change is inevitable, but also necessary for growth. When you embrace it and help your team drive it, that’s where success starts.”
Building teams, building capability
still finds it interesting. The larger the team, the more he learns, not only about leadership but about how different people are motivated, how trust is built, and how to create an environment where accountability feels enabling rather than heavy.
At this level, he has also deepened his approach to delegation and succession planning. Ian has seen that sustainable performance depends on empowering others, building capability in the management team, and creating clear accountability structures that people can confidently operate within. Strong deputies and real ownership across the team have become essential to keeping both service lines stable and moving forward.
The people and life beyond the role
Ask Ian what stands out about Lindström and he points to the people. The diversity of backgrounds and experiences means there is always something to learn, and there is a shared care for the customer that shows up in how teams approach their work. Outside of work, Ian enjoys trips to the US when he can, follows Liverpool FC closely, spends time with family, and stays active.

In Summary
Ian’s journey at Lindström shows what can happen when performance is matched with mentoring, opportunity, and the trust to step into bigger challenges. From Manchester Production Manager to leading UK Operations across Workwear and Industrial Wipers, he has grown through change, built strong teams, and stayed grounded in operational excellence and accountability. If you want a place where talented people will support your development, where you can stretch yourself and grow into new responsibilities, Lindström is a strong place to build your career.
