The recovery rate of textile waste totalled 71 per\u00a0cent; 100 per cent in Finland, and approximately 34 per\u00a0cent in European and Asian subsidiaries. The company\u00a0aims to increase the reuse rate to 90 per cent by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The vision target set five years ago for 2016 still remains\u00a0valid. Finding ways to reuse textile waste especially in the\u00a0European and Asian subsidiaries has proved challenging.\u00a0As these regions\u2019 share of turnover increases, the textile\u00a0waste recovery rate will decrease, unless the company\u00a0manages to find an adequate amount of partners that treat\u00a0textile waste.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of Lindstr\u00f6m\u2019s disposed textiles are made\u00a0from a cotton\/polyester blend, and include many manually\u00a0removable parts, such as zips and snap fasteners. The\u00a0current textile recovery solutions favour cotton and at least\u00a0materials without metal elements.<\/p>\n<p>Lindstr\u00f6m has managed to find its own solutions and\u00a0partners for the reuse of textiles, and negotiations on\u00a0new initiatives are constantly underway. However, the\u00a0amount of textiles recycled through existing solutions\u00a0is so insignificant that they have no clear impact on the<br \/>\ncompany\u2019s recovery rate of textile waste.<\/p>\n<p>The company considers chemical dissolving to be\u00a0the most significant future method, whereby cotton\u00a0and polyester could be recovered separately through\u00a0a chemical process and turned into new raw material.\u00a0Lindstr\u00f6m closely monitors the Design World of Cellulose<br \/>\nproject of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland,\u00a0Aalto University and Tampere University of Technology,\u00a0which involves developing new recycled textile fibre by\u00a0means of dissolving. The methods are developed for the\u00a0treatment of large volumes of waste.<\/p>\n<p>Also the Finnish Environment Institution (SYKE) has\u00a0raised chemical recycling as one solution for reusing textiles.\u00a0According to the Institution, both reuse and recycle\u00a0are better option for the environment than making use of\u00a0textiles as energy, if they are able to reduce textile production\u00a0from virgin materials. www.syke.fi<br \/>\nWe consider chemical dissolving to be the most significant future method circulating textile raw material.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solutions for recirculating textiles are needed Lindstr\u00f6m generated 1.2 million kilos in textile waste in\u00a02015.
